Historically there have been over a hundred types of woodwinds in Finland and Carelia area, according to professor Timo Leisiös' comprehensive study about folk wind instruments. Kristiina plays many modernised versions of there, several instruments from areas and countries nearby as well as flutes and whistles from far away.
At the moment Kristiina is researching the historical Finnish wind instruments and developing new models for contemporary professional use. She also performs concerts with these instruments. All of this is included in her artistic research and doctoral studies at the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department.
